Greetings from Tink World!
Well, it’s happening. “Meat” is being produced by one of the four big meat companies, Tyson. They have invested in a company called Beyond Meat. The company produces a plant-based “burger,” chicken strips and more from primarily pea protein. They claim to be soy, gluten and GMO free. The ingredients include pea protein, canola oil, coconut oil, water, yeast, maltodexrin, natural flavors, gum Arabic, sunflower oil, succinic acids, food starch, cellulose, methylcellulose, potato starch, beet juice extract, citrus fruit extract, vegetable glycerin. It takes all these ingredients to make a beef-like patty.
Personally, I smell a rat. If Tyson is involved, I wouldn’t go near it. The company says they are building meat from factories to help our environment, improve human health and improve animal welfare. However, we know by Tyson’s actions that this isn’t the case. It seems that the largest meat company wants to do one thing and say another.
This isn’t us taking a stance against vegan products. We believe that consumers should be able to purchase the products of their choice. We just want you to be careful when doing so. There are other companies that offer similar products that can be purchased without making you feel as if you’ve made a deal with the devil.
Just beware; a real meat product that is formed in a lab is next. The product creates muscle protein while being formed in a lab. It already exists. It’s just not feasible yet. Lab meat is going to be the next frontier. Scary if you ask me.
Don’t forget to come see Team Tink tomorrow at the Decatur Farmers Market! We’ll be there from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The special will include unsealed steaks. So, be sure to stop by to see what’s in the freezers. Also, don’t forget to purchase your raffle tickets. All of the money raised from the raffles will go directly to help Tink receive stem cell treatment.
Well, that’s all for now. Have a great week. We’ll see you at the market.
